I'd also like to hear your opinions on the traits, and whether I'm wrong in my judgement of any of the perks lol. One tiny mistake and the character youve had for a few in-games weeks/months is gone and so are your skills. No brainer. Smokes have always been pretty easy to find in Project Zomboid. Strength is difficult to level up, dont take this. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I don't understand why people like it. Tldr get outdoorsman if you get prone to illness and thin skinned. Stay aware of your surroundings and it wont be a problem. Negative Trait 1: High Thirst Points Redeemed: 6 Description: Needs more water to survive Starting the list off with one of my favorite negative perks it is time to talk about high thirst. Water is very easy to find, not worth 6 points, stops you from taking high thirst. I don't see very many discussions on this topic, and the wikis are barren with which traits can go away aside from those as a result of the recent Fitness update. 7. The only reason it isn't more highly ranked is after a few months you get less and less panic from zombies anyway. Note: the ratings are aimed towards new players on default settings. Though all of them are useful in their own ways, the following traits are the best to pick up. Even with prone to illness and prolonged periods of being soaking wet I've never caught a cold. Wakeful: 5/5 Less loss of fatigue and faster sleeping time. Which DOES affect stamina. Just confirming what you stated about keen hearing. Leave a comment below and once youre done with this list you can also check out another post I did on the top 10 best traits to take in Project Zomboid. Speaking of underweight as a negative trait.. Possibly the most harmful traits you can take. Obviously you wont be able to take these traits together but you can match it with others that reduce fitness as well. Claustrophobia on a no sleep MP server is just free points. Check near gas stations and inside residential homes and youre bound to come across some cigarettes to sate those smoker cravings. Because of this, it may prove to be a daunting task, and new players may feel unsure which should they pick or which is the best. Foraging is useful. Feeble, weak - by training strength. This list will show you my personal favorites and make you think of some traits you didnt consider before. If that doesn't work then post the question. This means driving through bushes, towing vehicles, and having to life-or-death plow through zombies, will fail horribly. For experienced players this can actually be a positive-ish trait once you get past the early game. Expensive for what it is, but it gives cars extra storage space which is occasionally very useful. 2 Skills boosted, but there are probably more useful perks you can take. Although it seems daunting at first, a good source of water is really not that hard to come across. The reason is because the penalty is given to you from being overweight, and not picking the trait itself. Generally high-fat foods are going to be easy to find. If youre being stealthy you can generally avoid getting into danger but youre right. Brave will cost 4 so you will essentially get a free point and not too much risk of panic. ._12xlue8dQ1odPw1J81FIGQ{display:inline-block;vertical-align:middle} Unless TIS changed something Poor Eyesight is permament, used to pick that one and survived for couple of months and it didn't go away but it was long time ago in a galaxy far, far away What about if you quit smoking? I think speed demon also increases your gas consumption so thats yet another reason not to take it. The end result is usually pulling a few more zombies than you would without the trait, making it a decent negative trait for a combat build. Farming isnt too difficult to level, either. Can be overcome when you build up your stealth skills. Never found a lack of food to be an issue personally. Fit/Stout are a waste of points because the huge bonuses trigger at 9+ so you're paying 6 pts for very marginal benefits and to top it all off 7 strength is actually possible to grind out via exercise without hating yourself, especially if you already start with 5 base. Foraging will keep you well fed thru summer and trapping will keep you fed thru winter. Don't really need it if you have a profession that gives maintenance though. You should just rest when you get hurt and avoid combat for a few days so that your wounds can heal. It doesn't make it trash, but it does make it weaker than many people thought. Just sleep through the nights or carry a flashlight, its that easy. Avoid. How do Project Zomboid traits work, exactly? Basically 2 free points. I tested it and i dont think organized applies to the player's inventory. In addition to slow reader and slow learner, it looks like pacifist is just an XP penalty for weapons, so it could be taken alongside them if you're willing to put up with all that extra grind. Consensus I've gotten from others on Cat's Eyes definitely makes it at least a 3. .FIYolDqalszTnjjNfThfT{max-width:256px;white-space:normal;text-align:center} Because of this I'd personally put it at 2, but I won't dispute a 3 too much simply because for whatever reason other people somehow find it to be useful. While you might be shuddering at the thought of making one of the survival mechanics in a survival RPG even worse to deal with dont! You can simply plant a couple more crops to get the same effect. Gymnast is S tier just like athletic. For more information, please see our This will make your start more difficult, but you can easily overcome this by eating more/less accordingly. Worth considering if you know what youre doing. Pair with cowardly (or agoraphobic) and you have a very speedy character. This one will really depend on the type of character you want to play and which version of the game you are playing. ._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ{border-top:1px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-widgetColors-lineColor);margin-top:16px;padding-top:16px}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._2NbKFI9n3wPM76pgfAPEsN{margin:0;padding:0}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._2NbKFI9n3wPM76pgfAPEsN ._2btz68cXFBI3RWcfSNwbmJ{font-family:Noto Sans,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:14px;font-weight:400;line-height:21px;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;-ms-flex-pack:justify;justify-content:space-between;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center;margin:8px 0}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._2NbKFI9n3wPM76pgfAPEsN ._2btz68cXFBI3RWcfSNwbmJ.QgBK4ECuqpeR2umRjYcP2{opacity:.4}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._2NbKFI9n3wPM76pgfAPEsN ._2btz68cXFBI3RWcfSNwbmJ label{font-size:12px;font-weight:500;line-height:16px;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._2NbKFI9n3wPM76pgfAPEsN ._2btz68cXFBI3RWcfSNwbmJ label svg{fill:currentColor;height:20px;margin-right:4px;width:20px;-ms-flex:0 0 auto;flex:0 0 auto}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._4OtOUaGIjjp2cNJMUxme_{-ms-flex-pack:justify;justify-content:space-between}._3Qx5bBCG_O8wVZee9J-KyJ ._4OtOUaGIjjp2cNJMUxme_ svg{display:inline-block;height:12px;width:12px}._2b2iJtPCDQ6eKanYDf3Jho{-ms-flex:0 0 auto;flex:0 0 auto}._4OtOUaGIjjp2cNJMUxme_{padding:0 12px}._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F{font-family:Noto Sans,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:12px;letter-spacing:unset;line-height:16px;text-transform:unset;--textColor:var(--newCommunityTheme-widgetColors-sidebarWidgetTextColor);--textColorHover:var(--newCommunityTheme-widgetColors-sidebarWidgetTextColorShaded80);font-size:10px;font-weight:700;letter-spacing:.5px;line-height:12px;text-transform:uppercase;color:var(--textColor);fill:var(--textColor);opacity:1}._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F._2UlgIO1LIFVpT30ItAtPfb{--textColor:var(--newRedditTheme-widgetColors-sidebarWidgetTextColor);--textColorHover:var(--newRedditTheme-widgetColors-sidebarWidgetTextColorShaded80)}._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F:active,._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F:hover{color:var(--textColorHover);fill:var(--textColorHover)}._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F:disabled,._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F[data-disabled],._1ra1vBLrjtHjhYDZ_gOy8F[disabled]{opacity:.5;cursor:not-allowed}._3a4fkgD25f5G-b0Y8wVIBe{margin-right:8px} Organized also increases storage size of backpacks and shelving and whatnot. Will the withdraw symptoms cease after awhile? Can't add to the post as i am newbut thank you:-). Pacifist, despite what it says, only makes you get 30% less experience with weapons. This is intended to be more a general guide for new players- what to consider taking and what to absolutely avoid. Being even drowsy drastically reduces your melee damage output. What pacifist actually does is lower the experience gain for weapon-related skills. I really dislike playing with this perk, but it isnt entirely detrimental. Multiple presets can be made to save a combination of a profession and multiple other traits which offer utility to the players that are eager to get right into the action. Since if you know what you're doing the only potential downside is noise, and many people don't care about noise in the first place (they drive quite noisy and/or poorly tuned vehicles). Whether you get lucky with a tub of ice cream in the freezer or come across a couple of sticks of butter putting on long-term weight is not so hard in Project Zomboid. Overpriced but underrated IMO. A lot of people are happy being slowpokes. This also reduces your base fatigue rate by a good amount, meaning that you avoid the horrendous tired debuffs for longer. Wakeful. Despite this it is still a very significant issue with stealth, yes. Underweight has a similar penalty, it makes your attacks deal less damage. Very useful for finding Axes and Sledgehammers. It's a complete joke as-is. One decent trait for getting a couple of points back is of course slow reader. I dont like smoker cause I hate micromanaging smokes, but if you dont mind it its pretty good too. Reduces risk of getting a cold by 90%! Those player single player can consider this one 2 free points as in single player you have the ability to speed up and slow down time when you wish. The major reason obese is considered bad (though I usually take it anyways) is because it reduces your fitness. Even if I dont want a huge disadvantage at the start of the game I usually grab this perk. Waste of one point. If you gain enough weight, you won't be "underweight" anymore ; if you lvl up your strenght skill enough, you'll go from "weak" to "feeble", or from "feeble" to nothing (5 fitness) and so on. and our Short Sighted: 4/5 I think even when it is functioning (I think it doesn't do anything right now). It's actually difficult to keep weight on my character with how much I jog around, which as I've found with the Minimal Display Bars mod, burns a ton of calories. Players have shared screenshots of thousands and thousands of cigarettes in their inventories. Possibly the best perk you can take. Maybe useful when multiplayer releases, but until then this perk is basically useless. So, here is the list of all Positive Traits in Project Zomboid ranked from best to worst: Fast Learner . The XP boost to nimble is great, as it levels extremely slowly on its own. 2- Not directly harmful, but either a bit too expensive or too situational to be worth using. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Understandably it can be annoying that you cant perform first aid on any others if youre playing multiplayer but as long as one of your friends is decent at first aid you can always have them patch you up. Maintenance and carpentry are essential skills. .ehsOqYO6dxn_Pf9Dzwu37{margin-top:0;overflow:visible}._2pFdCpgBihIaYh9DSMWBIu{height:24px}._2pFdCpgBihIaYh9DSMWBIu.uMPgOFYlCc5uvpa2Lbteu{border-radius:2px}._2pFdCpgBihIaYh9DSMWBIu.uMPgOFYlCc5uvpa2Lbteu:focus,._2pFdCpgBihIaYh9DSMWBIu.uMPgOFYlCc5uvpa2Lbteu:hover{background-color:var(--newRedditTheme-navIconFaded10);outline:none}._38GxRFSqSC-Z2VLi5Xzkjy{color:var(--newCommunityTheme-actionIcon)}._2DO72U0b_6CUw3msKGrnnT{border-top:none;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-metaText);cursor:pointer;padding:8px 16px 8px 8px;text-transform:none}._2DO72U0b_6CUw3msKGrnnT:hover{background-color:#0079d3;border:none;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-body);fill:var(--newCommunityTheme-body)} Many people don't care about the lost time; at least for single player. ._2Gt13AX94UlLxkluAMsZqP{background-position:50%;background-repeat:no-repeat;background-size:contain;position:relative;display:inline-block} A great one to take with pacifist is Fast Learner as it will end up in a net positive multiplier for weapons. For example, Sunday Driver, Short-Sighted, Slow Healer, Slow Reader, and Weak Stomach are negative traits and if you don't have a good combination of the best positive and best negative traits in Project Zomboid, you will have a hard time. Overweight/Underweight can be remedied with the appropriate food intake, i think you can get desensitised after killing a shit-ton of zombies - not 100% sure tho. 50% lower item transfer time is not only convenient for day to day living, but also really helps out when looting surrounded by zombies. Every traits related to weight and fitness/strenght can evolve/go away. Absolute garbage because of how it works. But let me convince you why pacifist is a good choice. High Thirst is great for a few extra points. With Sunday Driver, your vehicle will not perform when you need it. The character will not spawn until "Points to Spend" is higher than a negative number or equal to zero. Most persist. Large zed groups can be pulled outside, sleeping turned off makes sleep a non-issue, and you actually get the benefit of never getting boredom. This means that the player can start the game with only negative traits if they choose to do so, but if the player wants positive traits they will have to make some compromises. These two are weird. Thanks for posting your list! The first one is called Positive Traits and these perks make your character stronger. -4 Fitness, Very Underweight: Very low strength, very low endurance and prone to injury. High Thirst Points: +6 Effect: 200 percent increased thirst. Or just don't go outside in the wet and cold? Pretty much a non-issue with certain weapons that can consistently one-shot even at low skill levels. Gardener: 1/5. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. Since we are on the vein of traits that wont matter in the long-term its worth bringing underweight into the mix. It helps peel away some of them from larger groups. Of course things like cats eyes will be more useful when the world is set to pitch black nights, and other perks have specific uses to peoples playstyles so you may find them occasionally more useful than I may have rated them. Seriously, getting both of these will be a slog at the start but thanks to the new exercise system introduced into the Build 41 version of the game you can get your fitness level up by utilizing it. The farming skill itself isn't THAT useful though and your points will often best be spent elsewhere. Growing crops is great, but the benefit from farming skill is not significant enough. Find the official Discord here: The mechanics are complicated but a few levels in nimble/lightfooted largely nullify clumsy, and being in stealth gives zombies a chance to ignore your footstep sounds on top of that. Join. Go right ahead! Expensive, prevents you from taking slow healer, mostly useless. If you manage to level up your fitness level a couple of points you wont see the effect of these traits at all. -1 fitness, Description: Reduced running speed, low endurance and prone to injury. Keen Hearing greatly increases that radius, letting you "see" threats coming from farther away. I also play with insane population so you would think inconspicuous would be useful but its actually more helpful to let zombies be able to notice you from a greater distance. Increases fuel consumption by 100%. Most positive. Although note that it's per-detection tick, which I think might be around one real-life second or something? Great list! Only reason it's not 4 is because it's not required. This one may be a no-go for you and I can understand that. Many argue that players can remove the Out of shape trait as long as they exercise regularly and increase their fitness. Also IRL Nervous Wreck. Build 41 has made cigarettes a little bit harder to locate but you still shouldnt have too much trouble. Athletic has an edge over strong, as exhaustion is a killer. Always love learning the little quirks like this in the game. Project. You are correct. No one can fight . Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. Too expensive take hiker instead. Just avoid getting fractures and you will barely notice you have the trait. But that being said, if you want a character that is going to survive for a very long time, this doesnt really matter. If you don't want to use the skill don't bother, but id encourage anyone to use this skill as much as possible. In a game where getting injured has a high chance of death, you won't want to get hurt often anyway. This one is pretty easy to mitigate by simply eating a lot of food once you are playing the game. My opinions on each trait in the game I made in an ADHD fuelled frenzy. Positive Traits: Speed Demon 1/5 Waste of one point. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast, The subreddit for Project Zomboid. When fast forwarding tasks, it gives you enough time to react and kill surprise zombies. While the power is still working throughout the world you can get water from any kitchen or bathroom, after the power and water have been cut off of course you can boil water using a campfire to make it drinkable. How did you find the list? Take weak stomach instead. You can gain a couple levels in them by just watching TV in the first 9 days. Pacifist. Along with hunger and fatigue,. That fire officer + underweight combo is pretty awesome. Short Sighted only affects foraging radius and makes no difference to actual perception sight. To play and make specific character builds in Project Zomboid, players must balance their builds with both positive and negative traits. Despite Project Zomboid's slow healing ability, it is actually an enjoyable negative trait. Of course, some are rendered irrelevant by the extreme end game: Slow reader is not . Traits are divided up into positive traits that cost points to have, and negative traits that give you points to spend. Did any of the traits surprise you and do you think that you are going to take some of the traits that Ive mentioned in the post on your next play-through?
